Rais Yatim burning bridges with Kelantanese

Dato Seri Utama Dr Haji Rais bin Yatim, is a well known man. Nobody can complete his day without watching him on TV screen, and that is his ultimate.

I seldom miss watching him on screen while enjoying attending live concerts and giving away prizes to beautiful artists at Angkasapuri. I know he enjoys his job very much.

I wish to have a job like his but I know it is just a wild day dream for me.

He is well known for burning his bridge in 1987 after believing that Mahathir could be toppled by the UMNO General Assembly to add a new lease of his political life, by allying with the team B in the tensed party election.

BUT his bet didn’t pay him as he had to be out in oblivion for slightly more than a decade without anyone giving him a wink while then and started his maneuvering and meandering in politics to regain his positions he used to enjoy.

He regretted a lot for allying with team B, not like TR and the rest in the team who took it as part and parcel of democracy. Losing and winning run in parallel and the team took it as it was.

Rais started building back his bridge even while he was in the opposition and when his party S46, was disbanded and all its members joined UMNO, his move to rebuild his bridge became more expedient and convenient.

He succeeded and now his is back in front of the camera which he rejoices it glaringly.

The bridge that he rebuilt has to be taken with good care and he never want to burn it anymore like what he did 23 years ago.

To him the lesson and cost of burning the bridge was too dear for him to pay, and it will never happen again…swear…not again. It was not easy to rebuild it.

BUT now he is back in the lime light but this time he burns his bridge with the poor and the proletariat of Kelantan and his outburst against TR is definitely part of his move to insulate his esteemed and glamorous position in the government.

Taking the statement of TR that was misquoted by the media in the year 2000 as a very expedient and neat for him to impress the person whoever he wants to impress and to be looked tall among the rest of the present lineup.

Obviously he has done a very lengthy home work as it not an easy task to find fault in TR as far as the oil issue is concerned.

He does not focus on the reality of facts that the agreement between PETRONAS and all the States is real and to decide replacing the Royalty payment with Wang Ehsan to the people is a direct collision with the agreement inked by the State governments including Kelantan with that National Petroleum corporation.

There is a move to put Kelantanese in isolation by the Federal leaders and it is too obvious and observable.

The same contents in the agreement was signed by Sarawak and Sabah and these 2 states enjoy the Royalty even while Sabah was under opposition rule under Joseprh Pairin.Sabah is paid with Royalty without exertion. Why the difference?

Why didn’t Rais help to enlighten the people on the street to answer why the leaders at the Federal are so paranoid and unreasonable with the Kelantanese, but instead focus in attending to the misquoted statement of Tengku Razaleigh in 2000?

Rais must answer why he and the rest up there exercise double standard in the application of Law and in particular over this simple verbaged agreement?

Why are the Federal leaders too obsessed in getting at Kelantanese and to apply vengeful acts against them just because they are not supporting BN in the General Elections?

Please appreciate that the agreement was between Petronas and the government of the day not with UMNO.

Does it occur in the mind of these leaders that the rakyat is not prepared to be deceived any longer and their irritations is building up watching and witnessing the Federal Government’s attempt to find ways and means to read laws only to their ungainly interpretation.

Where is the 1Malaysia, when Sabah and Sarawak is treated differently, and Kelantan has to be reprimanded for not voting for the mismanaged BN government?

What wrong has the Kelantanese done to the country? What right has the BN Federal Government done to the Kelantanese PAS Government?

Why the Federal Malay leaders are so obsessed in hating the people of Kelantan and making use of the Mustapha Mohammad and Awang Adek to deceive their own people?

Don’t these 2 leaders have a bit of guilt being sycophants at the expense of their own people they claim to lead?

Does Rais see this in real and actual perspective? Where has the knowledge of Law which somebody has gone up to the optimum level of studies in the field gone to?

I appreciate the problem faced by the Mustapaha. He is torn in between the wants of his own Kelantanese voters and the ill intentions of their bosses in Kuala Lumpur.

BUT in this situation he should be prepared to sacrifice. If he chooses to take care of his own personal position he is taking Kelantanese as his sacrificial lamb.

So UMNO leaders of Kelantan must be prepared to tell the Federal leaders that they want the oil Royalty which is provided by the agreement and that is the main purpose of being UMNO leaders.

AND Rais who is already at this current age should also share the burden to advice the leadership what BN can expect if they go against the very basic need of the people and in this, the Kelantanese.

Tengku Razaleigh has done it. He has resigned to the fact that he has to accept the slogan ‘rakyat didahulukan’ as Najib has been selling since his ascendance to the Premiership…and why he (Najib) is not applying it like TR does?

Was he just selling the slogan for his own rhetoric? To Dr Rais Yatim I have a short line of reminder for him, ‘They who act without sufficient thoughts will often fall into unsuspected danger’.

Khairy kecundang, Pemuda terkangkang

Sekian sahaja.

Tun Ghazalie mati meninggalkan nama

“I am restless watching things that happen today. Everyone is lost in the woods” katanya kepada saya semasa saya menziarahi beliau beberapa kali.

Dia senyum. “Ha…. kalau ingat senang nak cerita. Semasa saya belum dijumpai semua orang seluruh dunia kata saya dah mati” memulakan cerita.

Hanya nak dengar kepastian sahaja lagi.” Kata beliau serius.

“Saya ingat,..saya baca” jawab saya.

Malah ada pemimpin UMNO kata saya ini ‘the best leader’ who has played lofty role in International politics.”

“Biasalah boss” kata saya.

“Tapi, bila pasukkan penyelamat jumpa saya masih hidup dicelah pokok buluh tu, keadaan berubah.

“Jadi anak muda, itulah politik.

Saya spontan menjawab secara berseloroh, “Alah Tan Sri, berjalan pun dah pakai tongkat, kaki pun dah lemah, takkan nak jadi Ketua Pemuda! Hishamuddin tu muda lagi.”

“I am going to use my head to lead, not with my legs!” katanya sambil ketawa besar.

Wallahualam.

No more food for boarding schools on weekends?

I don’t have much time to write for the time being as I am quite tight with my other personal errant jobs that I need to attend to for next few days.

Somehow I just scribble a bit as I am also too worried hearing complains from parents whose children are in the boarding schools country wide; who are apparently not served with food in the weekend.

It appears that all boarding schools nation wide are not opening up their kitchens and dining halls on Saturdays and Sundays and parents are asked to bring back their children home.

The reason is simple. The schools are not having enough funds to provide food and getting the students back to their parents and guardians is one way of addressing the issue.

For parents who have their children in the boarding school far from home now has to send pocket money for their children through their accounts to ensure that their children have enough food in the weekends.

Personally I don’t have that problem as my children are grown up but I am concerned about the situation which directly implies that the government now is too poor even to maintain the most basic need of growing up children that is food.

The Education Ministry is unable to unravel the financial anguish and grief suffered by the schools and it touches the nerve of parents and I just cannot comprehend how the situation could have stretched to this extent.

This has never happened before in any country, even in economically poor rated nations but it happens here in Malaysia. We are creating another history.

The situation is already ridiculously unbearable and hurting but my prayer continues hoping for the news to be untrue.

Who is accountable for this happening? Where have all the money allocated for the students gone to?

We at witnessing the extremes; the other extreme we hear and see wives of Ministers and the big names spending shopping sprees in France, London and Middle East to the tune of millions of ringgit while on the other extreme we witness students having no more food on the weekends.

Why can’t the government leaders sacrifice their first class travel and vacation? Why let the growing up children to undertake the sacrifice? Where is the fairness here?

Where is the point of reconciliation between these extremes? Can anyone enlighten these parents and the rakyat as a whole?

What happen to the big talks of transforming Malaysia to be fully industrialized nation with higher per capita income than it is today?

What happen to the slogan of ‘Rakyat didahulukan, pencapaian diutamakan’? How can we get the ‘pencapaian’ when we can’t even give food for the students we sponsor?

I stop here as everyone can already anticipate and foretell the sequent of events following this ruinous environment without exertion.

I don’t need to elaborate any further; I mean about the KPI of the government which has been widely talked about....it's all fallacies.

Thanks…………………………………………..Aspan Alias

Unmitigated corruptions pull us down

Corruption is heinous and it is the number one menace to mankind. Corruption has caused tragedy to governments and had thrown numerous numbers of nations and civilizations into oblivion.

Corruption runs in parallel with abuse of power as corruptors can only survive with persons with power and within their close cronies adjoining and surrounding them.

No nation can progress and survive in perpetuity once corruptions and abuse of power manage the system of government and so do for any organization with business entity and social as well as charitable organization of noble intentions.

A corrupted person does not have worthy of human value and that is why a corruptor is looked down especially in advance nations. Over there corruptors would be dishonored for life.

Conversely in Malaysia we can see with our bare and naked eyes that corruptors are bestowed with high and impeccable decorations and recognitions and being respected by the neighborhood and society they live in.

A leader in modern country who is found or just being perceived to be corrupted, will end up their lives in moral destitute and impoverishment, as the whole nation’s community will distrust them for life.

As Miguel de Cervantes, a Spanish Novelist, dramatist and poet used to say, “A man dishonored is worse than dead.”

Corruption is the main concern of our people here as it has painted an ugly facet of our elected government and this contamination seems to be contagiously spreading like wild fire as if there is no more hope for possible remedy to this pain in our neck.

There are many outstanding cases which are not attended to and being concealed from people by the authority as those involved are personalities with big pips and decorations.

For us here in Malaysia, personality within this kind of category is given exception and they own immunity from any legal address on them. Conviction is only meant for you and me.

Rais Yatim, then the Minister who took charge of Law once told the press that there were 18 high profile cases in the pipe line to be taken action with, but none of those has surfaced so far and it is another sore point of the rakyat.

What happen to all those 18 high profile cases as the tax payers seriously want to know where the taxes money they paid to the government have gone to and it is certain the amount is not small but hefty.

The leadership seems to be afraid of the corruptors than fearing the people agitations for their own political voracity and in the meanwhile tax payer’s money is ever draining into the pockets and bank accounts of the corruptors locally and abroad.

They have money changers to remit the loots into their personal account or of the cronies in London, Paris, New York and Hong Kong.

Recently we could hear money being transmitted through Dubai to facilitate shopping spree for some one influential…also trough money changer.

Of late we have been watching the highlights of the MACC almost daily but it has not brought any big corruptor to the court other than the bilis and the kembongs and it is now being apparent that convictions is only meant for the small, trivial and petty corruptors.

With the apprehension of the leadership and authority in settling the 18 high profile cases as admitted by Rais Yatim, it adds to more prove that corrupt practices is the privilege of the big names with high and strong linkages with the power house.

Dr Mahathir once took Abdullah to task for not taking action against few corrupt leaders and that issue became very hot during the 2008 General Election, which almost brought UMNO to sudden death.

Now it is Najib’s task to act on these cases and he would be directly accountable if he does not act on them which are already in the knowledge of the public.

Failing to act seriously and swiftly on these cases would only mean that Najib’s gigantic and lofty promises to combat corruptions remains a promise and if that is so let us just don’t pay attention to him as he is just another spurious and phony leader like his predecessor.

A real and conscientious leader would have to have balls to act on behalf of the people he leads who are in dire need to live under a clean and unsoiled administration.

The people are tired of the wretched conduct of our leaders who are corrupt and non ethical.

An ex-banker who became a leader does not believe in current banking system by sending out money to London through dubious money changer is not taken offence by the ruling party.

If not for ill intended reason he would have sent out the money though proper banking system which he himself has been in it for more than 2 decades. It’s absurd isn’t it?

In all honesty leadership in UMNO is not serious to change for the better and it does not know how to put the party on track and all of them are no better than my humble self and they are just fit to yarn around with me in mamak stalls and the ‘teh tarik’ outlets that spread on the side road tables.

Initially people were excited to see Najib with high pitch speeches with lofty promises to clean up the party and the government and do away with offenders that can bring shame to the party.

BUT all those promises remain as promises and the people are just too impatient to see the first fulfilled promise to clean up the nation become apparent and real.

The voting public is still waiting for organic changes and replacing the leaders with baggage is always one of the expectations of the people.

Day in day out all the moral perpetrators is still in the high offices which dampen the people’s eagerness and confidence to see the ruling party to be strong again by extricating the party from the corrupt image.

All the people are having dreams of a new political sanitary ambiance, but it’s too unfortunate that our leaders are perpetually dreaming.

In short our leadership still believes that UMNO is still a titanic and monumental that nothing can bring it down, and taking all misbehaved leaders to task is not an urgent issue OR non issue at all.

To them it is only the feelings of a few people like me who have too big and smelly mouths to talk about it again and again. They are still in denial. BUT time and nature will tell all.

They believe that the public is a bunch of apathetic and droopy lots who just stand at the sideline watching and approving all the shenanigans and pranks of their leaders.

We have not learned any lesson from past mistakes and misadventures. It seems we are not going to learn anything at all, now and in the foreseeable future.

UMNO - A Seasonal Party

UMNO has exchanged attributes with opposition parties. UMNO’s existence is just seen at the high level while down on the at the Division and Branch level UMNO is technically dead, lifeless and breathless.

Conversely the opposition parties are more energetic and hands on with the people on the ground through innovative, imaginative and creative approaches that position them close to the people.

UMNO seems to be like the oppositions of 2 decades ago when they are only seen to exist ‘just before’ and ‘during election’ weeks.

Now the opposition is casually saying that UMNO’s existence is apparent and noticeable only during an election and it exists seasonally.

UMNO has abandoned all activities in almost all Divisions as their leaders are too busy with personal politicking in Kuala Lumpur spending a lot of their valuable time in Ministers’ offices carrying files and documents for businesses which they in the end fail to secure.

More often than not, those files and documents are not even theirs: those are files and profiles of companies owned by others normally by big Chinamen who do not have easy accessibility to the leaders who have good signatures.

These brokers earn retainers while soliciting the jobs and subsequently being paid commissions after the jobs have been awarded by the government through their friendly Ministers and inside connections.

While big leaders in Kuala Lumpur are fleshy with eloquent rhetoric, leaders and members of the party down there at the branches are blinking without activities.

PAS and PKR have managed to make up their existence and they are being seen to be near to the public and active working out their programs with the public active participations.

Their leaders are always within their vicinity for interactions and continuously being fed with latest up dates of the goings and comings of the nation’s politics.

The day when UMNO branch heads were active drawing up programs and activities for their members and their neighborhood is obviously gone in oblivion.

I have been spending quite a number of hours a week with these branch heads whom I am still in touch with and I am convinced that lack of money as the main reason for their helplessness to function as branch heads.

We know that UMNO and money is synonymous. No money, no UMNO.

Some say, “Kalau buat program pun orang tak datang bang! Kalau PKR dan PAS buat ramai orang datang. Kita tempah karipap, mee goreng, teh tarik dan macam-macam lagi orang tak datang juga. Jadi malulah kat PAS dan PKR.”

Days back a branch leader told me, “Kita kalau buat program, akhirnya penceramah kita ceramah kat kita, jawatankuasa cawangan-cawangan. Apa faedahnya?”

This environment can’t go on perpetually as it is going to trap us tightly in the next General Elections.

UMNO have lost the main constituent and essential of strength: that is hard working and committed activists to labor their energy and mind for their party.

There must be reasons for this ungainly and graceless attitude and values of the members at the ground level.

They cease to pay attention to program organized by UMNO as they have perceived themselves as being made tools by their opportunist leaders who sell the support they get from the people at the ground level for their personal benefits like getting businesses and position with lucrative remunerations.

For past more than two decades UMNO made decisions without referring to the people especially through UMNO and that slowly but surely made the people on the ground felt left out in any major decisions made by the government.

That is why all the while my mind is so engulfed by performances history.

Administration pre Mahathir was more people oriented as every government decision which involved public interest, the public would be informed and opinion from the people would be sought after.

The information departments at district level were so involved in disseminating information through civic courses organized by the lowest government administration, the JKKK.

The idea was to tell the people what the government program were besides getting feedbacks and reactions from the people on the ground.

By doing so, the people were made to feel involved in major government decisions and they physiologically perceived that they were closed to the government of the day.

As from Mahathir’s regime decision were top-bottom and the people just had to accept what his administration did.

From then on the people and the government were slowly distanced away and the government did not get the actual feelings of the people on anything the government did.

Dr Mahathir just did everything his way and that made him so unpopular among the people towards the end of his premiership.

Consequentially the people just voted for Abdullah Badawi’s administration when he succeeded Dr Mahathir in 2004 with landslide victory. The people were just waiting for anybody else to lead as long as it was not Dr Mahathir in that General Election.

But Abdullah was all the way honeymooning from the day one he took over until his retirement and nothing has changed but only changed for the worst.

Najib took over 10 months back but he did not get the legitimacy of his leadership by calling the General Election but instead just follow through with Abdullah’s ungainly government until today.

He should have called for the GE while at his infant months of his premiership before all the current divisive and hot issues surfaced.

Now it may be too late for Najib to call the GE as issues after issues are surfacing and to call for GE at this current environment would only invite for sudden death to BN like what was faced by Liberal Democrat Party of Japan in August 2009 election.

UMNO and BN are now trapped in a very tight spot: trapped in between calling the GE now with humiliating and mortifying performance and calling the GE in 2013 which is exceedingly risky as other mountable issues are coming in streams to weaken Najib and his weak government.

The issues surrounding the government are by no mean small but very vulnerable. No one can really size up the actual support from the people for this government…it can be slightly better or much more devastating than Abdullah’s regime.

What do we do now? Can we just rely on the Juara Rakyat program that was launched by Najib yesterday to do the repair job? Is that enough?

Let’s talk about it.

Mohammad Hasan with his RM10 million ordeal

In my e-mail I received from a number of my regular readers asking me about the widely talked about issue of my MB Mohamad Hasan’s 10 million ringgit affair with the money changer Ali Slamath which is under investigation by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for illegal practices.

I was trying to avoid writing on this issue but after a while I decided to chip in some opinions as the readers encourage me to do so.

To my mind many people do use money changers to transfer funds abroad or to receive monies from abroad as it is the quickest and is the safe heaven for hiding money especially the ill-gotten ones.

In the case of Mohammad Hasan I am not quite keen to deliberate whether the money he transferred through the dubious money changer is an ill-gotten money.

Outwardly Mohammad has been a wealthy boy while he was in the corporate sector and 10million is just a dust to him.

What I wonder is,why was he acting too negligently knowing very well he is in a high public office and committing this kind of offence is a gravely irresponsible and reckless act.

He can’t be blaming his officers for failing to smuggle the RM10 million to London to escape investigation.

By ethic he has done disservice to himself and this incident magnifies his already mistiness in NS politics.

By acting in this manner Mohammad is not helping UMNO, but instead he is aggravating the seriousness of problems currently the party is facing.

He used to shamelessly tell his audience in one of his speeches that he has wealth that can last for 4 generations and he did not need to be corrupted.

The 10 million ringgit may be from the long time money that has been with him before he became the weak MB of the state.

I used to be quite a friend of him before he became the MB and I know that it is wrong to allege him with corruption as he has been rich ever since he was in the Cycle & Carriage Bhd where he was the Managing Director.

As I am now not in his wave-length to even standing near to him, and I have not sat even once over coffee or tea with him. He has unceremoniously deserted many of his close friends and the ones who prayed for his successes before.

He is now the MB and friends close to him are no more friends except those who are still in the category of rich and famous and with elaborate decorations are still in his invitation list.

What I am concerned in this issue is the credibility of this MB. He has committed serious offence in the eyes of written law and morally his credibility and standing as a high up public servant is severely and unremittingly scratched.

He has no more reasons to loiter around in high public office as he is perceived by voting public to be going against law when he is a Law-Maker in the state.

He should voluntarily disclaim and renounce all party and government positions he holds to upkeep the integrity of the democratic government of the state.

This issue has been around for already 2 months and one wonders why UMNO is not lifting its fingers to take actions against this misdeed.

All the talks and tales about rejuvenating UMNO remains a rhetoric in the party’s convention and the leadership is going to blame the people if they take actions against Law Falters like this wealthy MB in General Elections.

What is Najib’s apprehension to execute his power to address the problems? I am just like the rest who hails from Negri to see some moves by the party for some kind of proper actions against Mohammad.

Najib should be taking cue from the public and I hope he does not take directives from the kitchen as we are talking about the state and the country’s future.

We are managing a nation; not managing ‘Persatuan Sepak Takraw Kuala Sawah’. UMNO has never learned anything out of passed mistakes and misadventures.

Issue of this heinous kind has been the norm for UMNO and taking action on one left loads of other issues unattended and that may be the reason for the party not taking Mohammad Hasan’s issue as urgent.

If UMNO is serious in its attempt to regain support of the Malays and its members in particular the party should be taking urgent and swift step towards this issue as the NS State Assembly has only 4 seats majority in hand.

In conclusion, I am joining others on the street to hope for better UMNO with clear attitude towards the feelings and wants of the voting public in order to remain of consequence.

To Mohamad Hasan the party needs a sacrifice on his part; If his resignation can strengthen UMNO in the State, that is just what he ought to do……to walk his talk.

I hope he (Mohamad Hasan) would not continue on leaving the State party members in despair unendingly.

Do not treat the public as silly bunch and continue on the shenanigans of poor conduct leaders like the person now in issue.

To the PM, don’t allow the irritated public to continue on feeling the pain of UMNO’s misconducts, delinquency and transgressions as it is too hard for them to stomach.

Do not continue on taking peoples' friendliness and kindness as weaknesses, and do observe the wish of the public.

Happy New Year. Let’s look forward for some real and organic changes.
