Slippery politics

Politics these days are too slippery, and Abdullah Badawi’s claim that political situation is excellent can be fallacious and deceptive.

No one seems to gain control of the people’s mind as every one of those in the helm seems unfit to be up there any longer.

Najib has not been able to get back to his image when issues after issues are thrown continuously at him of late and I imagine how he can sleep and rests well with issues surrounding him.

The beatings on him is made worst by his association with Abdul Razak Baginda who is facing serious charges in the High Court with regards to the death of Mongolian girl, Altantuya Shaaribuu.

The Statutory Declaration made by Balasubramaniam against the Deputy Prime Minister and subsequently retracting from the content made all eager Malaysians so mystified.

Najib is seen as an impulsive liar, when he at first denied knowing Saiful Bukhari, a 23-year old college dropout, but subsequently admitted meeting that vagabond from somewhere at his office and the latest to his admission that the boy came to his residence just days before making police report on Anwar's sodomy issue.

To this contradicting words from Najib my former teacher in school commented, “Kita mintak Najib bukak mulut dia lebar-lebar, sebab nak tengok lidah yang ada dalam mulut dia tu lidah biawak atau lidah manusia!” saying it firmly but disgustingly.

When Wan Azizah went to see Abdullah, that man never lifted a finger to protect Najib but expediently said that what was discussed is still in the court of trials and it might be an act of subjudice to comment.

He only expressed his commitment for the safety of Anwar and the family.

Abdullah’s non-committal stand made Najib’s strongmen felt very disappointed and alleged Abdullah is taking Anwar’s claim on Najib mischievous act well-situated advantage for him to make Najib to think twice before deciding to replace him as the Prime Minister of the country.

Apparently Abdullah has followed the trace of Najib’s attempt to rally support for the party President in the coming party election at the year end that would made him the sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Tun Mahathir was exceedingly excited as the issue on Anwar suits his interest well and said that was not surprising issue and it created no shock to him.

He implied that sodomy and Anwar is synonymous and the issue surprised no one.

All leaders, the retired ones and the current lineup made vengeful comments on each other and there must be a cause for all these.

I reckon they are having in their custody of each others malpractices and secrets while they were together in power.

I now dare say it loudly that these are all what we inherited from Dr Mahathir’s carelessness in managing UMNO while he was in power , allowing this new ill-cultured leaders to rise without careful vetting.

What Dr Mahathir needed was just leaders who amused him and stand loyal to whatever he did without taking moral as cardinal prerequisite to ascend to the leadership at all levels.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry were made leaders as long as they were with money and glamour which subsequently nurtured the culture of money politics, cronyism and patronization in UMNO which now has come to a treacherous point.

I am very proud for not being anywhere within that system and culture since I joined UMNO in the early 70’s.

That explains why I have not benefited with any government positions as I failed to amuse any leader at all levels in the party but instead I lost everything to the extent that I have nothing more to lose.

I never regret but instead I am enthralled as what I have been forecasting to happen can be latently seen today.

My bad intuitions of UMNO have come to reality and I proudly say it again that our lethargic UMNO will be history if all active leaders in the party are still playing the same kind of politics and by the same leaders who were rejected by the voters in the last General Elections.

If there is no change of leadership, perhaps staying on the sideline watching the subsequent catastrophic happenings in UMNO can be interesting episode in our life.

However, with the effort by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to address the problems in the party gives many quarters feel exuberant and hope the changes that he wanted to do ultimately become reality.

Hence, that will rally all Malaysian to unite and become citizens of consequence within national and international community.

Let us keep our fingers crossed.
